Our mission is to provide safe shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, legal and support services to victims/survivors of family violence, sexual assault, stalking and abuse in Montgomery and surrounding counties and to provide education to the community about such issues.
The Women's Center offers free services to victims and survivors of violence. Service areas include:
- Shelter: The shelter provides immediate housing for victims of violence and their children. While staying at the shelter, clients gain access to all other types of MCWC services. MCWC also provides shelter for male victims of domestic violence.
- Advocacy and Accompaniment: As support, clients are able to have a trained MCWC staff member or volunteer accompany them through the criminal justice, medical, and other social service systems.
- Counseling: Free group and/or individual counseling sessions are available to victims of family violence and their family members.
- Crisis Intervention: The Women's Center operates a 24/ 7 crisis hotline which enables victims of violence to gain direct access to all of our service areas. If you need help, call (936) 441-7273 now. A volunteer or staff member will be on the line to help you.
- Education and Outreach: Presentations are available in order to educate individuals about violence in our communities. Businesses, schools, and other community organizations may schedule presentations by contacting our staff.
- Legal: Victims of family violence also have access to free legal representation in the areas of child custody, protective orders, divorce, and other family law issues.
- Scholarships: Educational scholarships are available to our clients to help them establish lives free from violence.
- Transitional Housing: In 2009 we will have 24 affordable apartment units available for clients exiting the shelter.
